But we've all happily taken off an accessory (or two) before leaving the house in the morning, the latest fashion trend to take the red carpet by storm has applied this style rule in the most literal sense imaginable.

That's right, sheer, see-through dresses are latest fashion trend to take the red carpet by storm.

And let's just say, they're not exactly for the fashion faint of heart.

Everyone from the Kardashians and Rita Ora to Lady Amelia Windsor have been spotted styling the special occasion trend in recent months.

And while Kylie Jenner opted for a thin white jersey dress to show off her fluorescent yellow underwear, older sister Kourtney fully committed to the trend with her sequin maxi dress which left her black lace bra and pants totally exposed.

Giving us a blueprint in how to pull off sheer dresses, Lady Amelia - who is 39th in line for the throne - wore a stunning see-through maxidress to Dior's Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer.

Complete with delicate chain straps, the 23-year-old fashionista purposefully paired the dress which crisp white Dior undies to finish off the sophisticated ensemble.

Going for all the glitz and glamour, supermodel Bella Hadid oozed 70s disco vibes with a grey sequin maxi dress which flashed her black undies at the Victoria's Secret Fashion show last year.

Rocking the sheer dress trend on the BAFTAs red carpet earlier this year, YouTuber Tanya Burr wore a stunning sequin maxi with a flattering satin bodysuit underneath.

Similarly, plus-size model Iskra Lawrence wore an almost identical lace version to the launch of Hailey Baldwin's PrettyLittleThing collaboration last November.

Meanwhile, Brazilian supermodel Izabel Goulart opted for a more theatrical design with an Elizabethan collar at last year's Venice Film Festival.

Singer Mabel McVey also jumped on the sheer dress trend when she stepped out in this grey offering for the Victoria Beckham 10th anniversary party last year.

And on the more daring side of things, Tigerlily Taylor wore a daring black sheer dress to a London Fashion Week fundraiser which left her nude bodysuit totally on show.
