Have to Buy Windows 10 Again if I Change Motherboard
Hullo,
I am Sumit, an Contained Counselor and a ii-Year Windows Insider MVP here to assist.
Although the general dominion says OEMs cannot exist transferred to another figurer, just Microsoft might give exceptions every bit long as license isn't abused. Contact Global customer back up if troubleshooter fails.
Activation depends on what blazon of license you accept of Windows 7/8/10.
If Windows vii/8/10 came preinstalled with the calculator, that is chosen an OEM license. For an OEM license, the license dies as soon every bit Motherboard dies. And so substantially it is non-transferable. If that is the instance you demand to become a new license.
Even so, this is not same for retail licenses i.e. you purchased the license through Microsoft store. That does carry transfer rights. If that is the example, delight come across the beneath steps:
Run the activation troubleshooter on the new device using the below steps:
Go to Settings>Update and security>Activation and run the troubleshooter. and select I recently changed hardware on this device.
(Delight note that Activation troubleshooter requires you lot to have digital license linked to Microsoft Account.)
If the troubleshooter hasn't helped, you would have to telephone call Microsoft during support hours to get more aid.

You lot have said it is OEM
You can non supersede the Motherboard with an OEM preinstalled License with whatever Motherboard you wish to when you take a preinstalled OEM License (HP, Acer, etc)
.
You lot have to follow the directives or you void your OEM License.
This was the original link. Microsoft is altering/deleting links, merely the information that was originally there remains the same (I copied it before the link disappeared)

Q. If my customer asks me to upgrade a PC with new hardware components, when is a new operating organisation needed? When would the PC exist considered "new"?
A. Generally, an finish user can upgrade or replace all of the hardware components on a computer— except the motherboard—and still retain the licence for the original Microsoft OEM operating system software. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created. Microsoft OEM operating organization software cannot be transferred to the new computer, and the licence of new operating organization software is required.
If the motherboard is replaced because it is lacking, you exercise not need to acquire a new operating system license for the PC as long as the replacement motherboard is the aforementioned make/model or the same manufacturer's replacement/equivalent, as divers by the manufacturer's warranty.
